About us…
Motorcycle Collision Avoidance Training came about because of one man’s request to get some “pointers” from another man about motorcycle riding. The first man was Chip Green. The second man was me. Chip had just purchased a new motorcycle and had not ridden in a long time. He was very determined to learn all he could about motorcycle safety and maneuverability. I asked him if he wanted to start off on the road or in a parking lot. He said, “A parking lot?” I borrowed some cones and we began discussing the importance of starting off in a controlled environment. I was already teaching motorcycle courses at work and wrote a lesson plan containing some of the cone courses from the basic police motorcycle class. Our pastor gave us permission to use the parking lot at church and we started setting up cones. It started out with us meeting on weekday afternoons and Saturdays and eventually we did a class. Over the years, his skills have improved so much that he is now an accomplished rider and instructor. After six years, averaging eight classes a year, Chip has attended every class we have done. With the help of two other instructors, Roger Medlock and Mike Gregory, we teach between 5 and 25 students per class, promising one thing…that when they leave, they will be better, safer and more confident riders by the end of the day. There is no yelling, screaming, or talking down to the students. We explain and demonstrate each exercise before the students begin. We use the figure 8, the in-line cone weave, the off-set cone weave, the 360 and double 360, the intersection, as well as inline braking, the brake and escape, the evasive maneuver, and share counter-steering and curve negotiation techniques. We provide this training, water throughout the day, as well as lunch to all students at no charge. At the end of the day, we have students complete a course critique and have a group discussion. Our ultimate goal is to help reduce motorcycle involved collisions by educating riders, of all levels on proper riding techniques in a controlled environment. We look forward to seeing you in our next course. Thanks so much for checking out our page.
Ride Safe,
Timmy
